How far in advance of my trip should I request the eTA?

The Canada eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) can be requested up to 2 days before travel, but it recommended to apply at least 10 days in advance to avoid unforseen issues and ensure timely approval.

To apply for the eTA for Canada, you must meet the following specific requirements:

I have requested the eTA, how long does it take to process?

The processing time for the eTA may vary depending on the accuracy of the information and documentation provided; eTA applications are typically processed within 48 hours; however, many receive a response sooner.

You can check the status of your application by clicking this link.

What is the cost of the eTA to Canadá?

The total cost of the eTA for Canada is $84, which includes the government fee of €5 and a service fee of €79. This service fee covers application review, 24/7 support, and a simplified process to prevent errors and delays

How long is the eTA for Canada valid, and what is the permitted stay with it?

An approved eTA is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA.

During this five-year period, you can enter Canada multiple times, but each stay must not exceed 180 days. The final decision regarding entry is always made by the border services officers.

Can the eTA be extended?

The eTA cannot be extended. If your current authorization is about to expire or has already expired and you wish to enter Canada, you must submit a new eTA application.
You can submit a new application by clicking on this link.

Is there a transit visa? Is it required for Canada?

Yes, Canada offers a Transit Visa, but it is not required if you are eligible for an eTA and meet its conditions. There are some exemptions and requirements:

Citizens of Visa-Required Countries:

If you are from a visa-required country and are not eligible for an eTA, you will need a Transit Visa if:

  • Your international flight has a stopover at a Canadian airport on the way to another country.
  • You are connecting between two international flights at one or more Canadian airports.
  • Your transit through Canada will be 48 hours or less.

Who can transit without a visa?

Some travelers can transit through Canada without a visa if they meet the following specific conditions:

You must be traveling to or from the United States and your connection in Canada must take place at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) or Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) – Terminal 1 only. You must hold a valid passport from an eligible country (China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Taiwan), a valid U.S. visa, and a confirmed airline ticket for a flight departing within 24 hours of your arrival in Canada.

Certain restrictions apply: you cannot leave the international transit area of the Canadian airport, and domestic flights or layovers in airports other than the designated ones are not permitted. Additionally, if your U.S. flight connects through any airport other than Honolulu International Airport (HNL) or Guam International Airport (GUM), you must have entered the U.S. at least once in the past 10 years using the same U.S. visa.

Who cannot apply for a Transit Visa?

If you are from a visa-required country and not elegible for an eTA and:

  • Your transit through Canada lasts more than 48 hours.
  • You plan to leave the airport, even if your visit is shorter than 48 hours.
  • You will enter Canada by land or sea (e.g., bus, train, car, or cruise).

In these cases, you must apply for a visitor visa instead of a transit visa.

I already have my ESTA to USA, what should I do next?

Once you have received your authorization approved, the next steps will depend on your travel plans and the purpose of your trip. Below, we have outlined some of the usual steps:

  • Check your entry requirements.
Make sure you have all the necessary documents to enter the country, including your passport, flight tickets (both inbound and outbound) and any other document that can support your visit.

  • Travel plans:
Confirm your travel itinerary, including flight details, accommodation, and transportation within the country.

  • Currency and finances
Consider your needs and plan accordingly. It is advisable to have some local currency for immediate expenses upon arrival.

  • Contact information:
Keep the contact information of your accommodation, embassy or local consulate, and any emergency contacts readily available.

  • Travel insurance:
Consider taking out travel insurance to cover any unexpected event or emergency during your trip.

  • Local traditions and laws:
Familiarize yourself with the traditions, laws, and cultural norms of the country to ensure a respectful and pleasant visit.

  • Stay informed:
Stay informed about any updates or changes to travel advisories, entry requirements, as well as local conditions before your trip.

Please keep in mind that a valid eTA and travel document don’t guarantee that you can enter Canada. When you arrive, a border services officer will ask to see your passport and other travel documents. They’ll check your identity to make sure that you’re the same person who was approved to travel to Canada.

I have made a mistake in my application, how can I change it?

Before making any changes to your application, please consider the following points:

  1. If your application has been processed and confirmed, no changes can be made.

  2. If your application is still being processed, no changes can be made.

  3. You will only be able to modify your application if you have pending documentation or data on your application form. Please note that once you confirm your application, an automated system starts to make checks and connections with our databases. This is why you should thoroughly check all your application details and documentation before confirming the registration of your application.
