What is the permitted length of stay in Puerto Rico with the ESTA?

The permitted length of stay in Puerto Rico with the ESTA is a maximum of 90 days per visit. This applies to any travel within the United States, including its territories such as Puerto Rico.

Additional Details:

  1. 90-Day Period:
    • Maximum permitted length of stay: The ESTA allows a maximum stay of 90 consecutive days per entry. This means you can visit Puerto Rico and stay for up to 90 days without needing an additional visa.
  2. Conditions of Use:
    • Multiple entries: During the validity period of the ESTA (2 years or until the expiration of your passport, whichever comes first), you can enter several times to the United States and its territories. However, each visit must not exceed 90 days.
    • Purpose of Travel: The ESTA is intended for tourism, business, transit, or medical treatment purposes. It does not allow employment or study in the United States.
  3. Calculation of the length of stay:
    • Day counter: The 90-day begins from the day you enter Puerto Rico or any other U.S. territory. It does not reset if you travel between states or territories within the U.S. during those 90 days.
    • Continuous stay: If you leave the United States and its territories before the 90 days expire and then re-enter, you may be allowed a new stay of up to 90 days, but this is subject to the immigration authorities at the port of entry.
