Is there a transit visa? Is it required for Laos?

Yes, there is a transit visa, however it must be applied for in advance at a Laotian embassy or consulate before your trip.

Conditions for Transit Visa

  1. International transit: If you plan to leave the international transit area of the airport during your stopover in Laos, you will need to obtain a transit visa. This visa type allows you to enter the country for a specific period for transit purposes, such as changing airports or making a long connection.
  2. Application process: You must apply for the transit visa in advance at the nearest Laotian embassy or consulate to your location. The process may require you to submit documents supporting your travel itinerary and the reason for your transit in Laos.

Exception for International Transit Zone

  • NO visa required: If your layover in Laos does not involve leaving the international transit zone of the airport, you will not need a transit visa. In this case, you will remain within the airport zone without entering the country.
